IAHRP Code of Conduct

The Institute of Advanced Human Resource Practice (IAHRP) is a professional institute committed to the advancement, recognition, and continuous development of human resource professionals in Nigeria and across emerging markets.

We are established to support HR practitioners with practical, career-focused education, professional certification, and structured membership pathways that reflect the realities of today’s workplace. IAHRP exists to prepare HR professionals not just for certification, but for real responsibility, leadership, and impact within organisations.

As the demand for skilled and strategic HR professionals continues to grow in Nigeria, IAHRP provides a modern, industry-relevant platform for individuals who want to build credible, future-ready HR careers.

1. Professional Integrity

Members of IAHRP shall:

  • Act with honesty, fairness, and transparency in all professional activities

  • Avoid misrepresentation of qualifications, experience, or professional status

  • Uphold the reputation and credibility of the HR profession at all times

Integrity is the foundation of professional trust and ethical HR practice.

2. Competence & Professional Responsibility

IAHRP members are expected to:

  • Practice only within the limits of their professional competence

  • Maintain and improve their HR knowledge and skills through continuous professional development (CPD)

  • Apply HR principles responsibly, with due care and diligence

Members must strive to deliver high-quality HR services and professional judgement in their roles.

3. Ethical Human Resource Practice

Members shall:

  • Promote fairness, equity, and respect in employment and workplace practices

  • Support ethical recruitment, selection, performance management, and employee relations

  • Avoid discriminatory, exploitative, or unethical workplace practices

IAHRP upholds ethical HR practice as essential to sustainable organisational success.

4. Confidentiality & Data Protection

Members must:

  • Respect the confidentiality of employee, organisational, and personal information

  • Handle HR data responsibly and in line with applicable data protection and privacy standards

  • Avoid unauthorised disclosure or misuse of confidential information

Confidentiality is a critical obligation of all HR professionals.

5. Compliance with Laws & Regulations

IAHRP members are expected to:

  • Comply with applicable labour laws, employment regulations, and workplace policies

  • Promote lawful and compliant HR practices within their organisations

  • Act responsibly when advising organisations on HR and people management matters

Members should support organisations in maintaining lawful and ethical employment practices.

6. Professional Conduct & Behaviour

Members shall:

  • Conduct themselves in a respectful, professional, and responsible manner

  • Avoid actions that may bring the Institute or the HR profession into disrepute

  • Maintain professionalism in communication, representation, and public engagement

Professional conduct applies in physical, digital, and online environments.

7. Conflict of Interest

Members must:

  • Declare any actual or potential conflict of interest that may influence professional judgement

  • Avoid situations where personal interests conflict with professional responsibilities

  • Act in the best interest of employers, clients, and stakeholders

Transparency in managing conflicts of interest is essential to ethical practice.

8. Respect, Diversity & Inclusion

IAHRP promotes inclusive HR practice. Members are expected to:

  • Respect diversity, dignity, and human rights in the workplace

  • Promote inclusive and equitable employment practices

  • Support respectful workplace cultures free from harassment or intimidation

9. Use of IAHRP Name & Designations

Members shall:

  • Use IAHRP titles, certificates, and designations accurately and responsibly

  • Avoid unauthorised or misleading use of IAHRP branding or credentials

  • Cease use of IAHRP designations where membership or certification is withdrawn or suspended

10. Breach of Code & Disciplinary Action

Failure to comply with this Code of Conduct may result in:

  • Investigation by the Institute

  • Suspension or withdrawal of membership or certification

  • Other disciplinary actions as deemed appropriate

IAHRP reserves the right to enforce this Code to protect professional standards and public trust.
